13 Commandments of College

Imagine my face, in place of his and 3 more commandments on the back

To all my friends going to college this fall for the first time I have a tip for you, don't get it fucked up.
College is the mecca of Vice; I know, I've been there, and I have returned with the knowledge needed on how to venture through this mecca without destroying thy self or losing thy purpose.

1. READ EVERY SYLLABUS
The Syllabus is a gem; the roadmap to the class. It tells you whats expected of you, the things that will be discussed during class, and how your grade is calculated, which is very important when you wanna calculate for your self where you are in a class and how to get to where you wanna be.

2. DO YOUR DAMN HOMEWORK
The homework is there so do that shit. All of it isn't required, but the more practice you get in the class the better.

He could be You.

3. STUDY
Study early and often. Never know when you may get tested so study after class, and before class. Pop quizzes are the worse-iest. Tests are fuck boys as well, do bad on a test you might have to do something strange to get that grade up (or you could do better on your next test).

Product of good studying. Check out that smile : )

4. READ YOUR MOTHERFUCKIN' TEXTBOOK
If you have a textbook for a class, read that bitch. Most classes revolve around the textbook, if you don't know whats in the book then you not gonna know whats on the test. Some teachers use classtime to discuss the assigned reading from the past class while others use the assigned reading as background information for their lecture. Please don't get it fucked up, read the textbook.

This could be you (minus the shoes, I don't think those are real)

5. USED TEXTBOOKS
Amazon.com is a real website use that shit, there is no reason you have to buy a $500 book when you can get it used for $100; and so you know amazon is not the only online used book store, search for some so you can compare prices.

Wow those books probably cost over $1,000 retail. I bet it was beautiful getting those used

6.  DON'T MAKE YOURSELF FEEL LIKE A LOSER

Make friends, introduce yourself to people, NETWORK. Nothing is worse than spending a whole semester feeling sorry for yourself cause you dont have any one to hang out with (from experience). School is priority but being social is a close second.

Even the mouse gettin to it.

7. MAKE FRIENDS WITH AN UPPERCLASSMAN.
They have been here longer than you, so they may know a few things that they can pass on to you; utilize their experience to the fullest. Also get to know a professor, its always nice to have a friend on the other side.

"There is Danger in these waters, but I will show you the path safety"

8. BE OPEN MINDED
College is filled with strange people, experiences and ideas that you are unfamiliar with; so dont knock it till you open yourself to understand it.

The portrait of you

9. DON'T BE STUPID
You are an adult you will be fucked if you get into some real trouble. Sure try new things but if that new thing might get you into trouble you may want to consider what is at stake; your education (they'll drop your ass) and your freedom (talking about jail and that shit won't make you smile).

This could be you (minus the peach fuzz and ouchy face)

10. GET WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF IT.
What do you want out of the first year of college? Think about it, write it down, and once the school year starts make sure that you get everything you wrote and more.

Me feeling good after I got mines. This could be you minus all the pretty

11. PLAN AHEAD.
Where do you see yourself at once you graduate; how about 10 years from now?, answer those questions and when you have figure out how you will get there? You need to be proactive in life and this is how you do it.

Planning is beautiful. Peep the smile.

12. INTERNSHIPS/RESEARCH
Job experience is just as important as a degree when you are applying to that dream job, and internships are a great way for students to gain experience in the field they desire. Some internships are paid and some arent but let the job description be the deciding factor not the salary, because gaining experience is the purpose of internships.
Research is just as important as internships for those desiring to enter into a technical field. Many of your professors will most likely be doing or working towards doing research, so ask them whenever you feel ready to, and if they say and you happen to be interested in the type of research they do then ask if you can help. It's that easy; if they say yes great, but if they say no it's okay cause at least they know you are interested in research, and they may point you towards some. But whatever you do don't give up  cause you get declined from an internship or a research opportunity, keep searching there are always more.

If these old heads did an internship, and so can you.

and lastly...

13. HAVE FUN
College is what you make it, so make it great.

Proof that I had fun
